Five Ways to Grow A Community of Like-Minded People

My first exposure to the word like-minded was listening to a preacher describe how Christians are supposed to be like-minded. We are called to have the same mind that is in Christ Jesus. So, how does that look? We conformed not to the thinking of the world; we are set apart. When people hear that, and even some Christians might think it sounds robotic, everyone thinking the same! However, that’s not true. Have you been told to be careful who you associate with, or that birds of a feather flock together? It is an old adage, but it means “people of similar interests, background, ideas, or characteristics will often congregate or hang out with each other, people who have similar ideas or values tend to stick together.”

“The definition of like-minded is having a like disposition or purpose: of the same mind or habit of thought.” Whatever we pattern after this is what we are going to produce. It is where the Law of Attraction comes into play. “The ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on; whatever we think begins to manifest itself into our world.” When I started my business and exposed myself to entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, I heard the word like-mindedness from various speakers and writers. I am reading books on how successful people think, and honestly, until going after my dream, I didn’t know that successful people thought differently. Why that didn’t occur to me is because I didn’t give thought to it. Here are some characteristics of successful people:

1. They do not accept the norms of the crowd. They are not following the world; they are pursuing their dreams, aspirations, and interest.
2. They are intentional about what they seek out of life. If that means getting up at 4 am, they are setting their minds on the day.
3. They hang around like-minded people. They are networking with people who are pursuing their dreams and who can help them grow.
4. They Grow. Read books, listen to CDs, watch videos on the subject matter. They are continually growing and learning.
5. They are creative and operate outside the box. “They always look for things to get the thinking process started because what you put in always impacts what comes out.” John Maxwell
